About Windhoek Airport

Windhoek Airport has all the basic amenities ATM's, shopping, cafes, a first class information desk and car rental kiosks. Taxis and a bus service are also available outside arrivals. Most domestic flights pass through the smaller Windhoek Eros Airport.

Both airports are connected by public buses, which also stop at downtown Windhoek. International flights arrive into Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport which is situated approximately 42 kilometres west of Windhoek. Domestic flights arrive at Eros Airport, which is more conveniently located, just 10km south of Windhoek.

If arriving in the rainy season it is best to he book a four wheel drive or a 2x4 pickup both of which have a high ground clearance.

If touring Namibia then you will most likely arrive into Windhoek's small airport. Windhoek is only a short distance from the airport. Windhoek has been strongly influenced by the Germans and is evident from the food and architecture.

Whilst your mobile phone may not work in certain outback locations, it is worth bringing along, in case of breakdown and need to call emergency services. Please check that you your mobile phone provider has a roaming agreement.

Water may help save your life, so treat it as precious commodity. Don't leave taps on when washing your teeth, so be green and do as the Namibians do.

Flat tyres are a common occurrence when driving in Namibia, so do brush up on your wheel changing skills. Always ensure you have at least one spare tyre. An extra spare can also be requested if renting with 1st Car Rental, at a small additional cost.

When driving, take care when following map routes and note down land marks. If you do get lost it is usually best to drive back to the last land mark and restart from there.

Windhoek is fast becoming a popular tourist destination, which is not surprising given the natural beauty, and wilderness, of Namibia.
