The Polish pronounce it Warszawa. The locals can be refereed to as Varsovian, from the old Latin name for Warsaw, Varsovia. Chopin moved here as a boy and spent about half his life here.
It lays claim that the Zaluski was the first public library anywhere in the world, which opened in the middle of the 16th century. The city is on the banks of the Vistula River. It has the nickname of being the Phoenix city, having risen from the ashes of the Second World War.

The Two Warsaw Airports
Chopin Airport (IATA code WAW) is the full name of one of the airports and the main international airport. The other being the
Modlin Airport (WMI) which handles budget carriers. Both have a full range of ways of getting to and from the airport, with bus, train and taxi services.
Two Scenic Warsaw Drives
1) Kampinos National Park - Start from central Warsaw and head west toward Kampinos National Park, just 30 minutes away. The road passes through small villages and open fields before entering forested areas filled with walking trails and wildlife. Along the way, you can stop at Palmiry Cemetery and Museum, which honors victims of World War Two. The drive is peaceful and green, perfect for a short escape into nature.

2) Vistula River Valley to Kazimierz - Begin your drive heading south from Warsaw along the Vistula River. Follow the route toward the town of Kazimierz Dolny, known for its Renaissance architecture and art galleries. The road winds through farmland, river views and forested hills. Stop for a walk along the riverbank, or explore the town's historic market square. This drive blends natural beauty with cultural charm and takes about two hours each way.
